Γιορτή 11/2 – Άγιος Βλάσιος
The Orthodox Church honors the memory of the hieromartyr who served humanity as a physician and shepherd. The feast day of Saint Blasius celebrates his selfless contributions and ultimate sacrifice.
Sύμφωνα με πληροφορίες από το saint.gr, ο Άγιος Βλάσιος υπηρέτησε ως επίσκοπος στη Σεβαστεία κατά την περίοδο 308 έως 323 μ.Χ., υπό την αυτοκρατορία του Λικινίου. Η δράση του επικεντρώθηκε στην περιοχή αυτή όπου συνδύασε τις γνώσεις της ιατρικής με τη βαθιά χριστιανική πίστη του, προσφέροντας θεραπεία και οικονομική βοήθεια στους ασθενείς.
The steadfastness of his faith during persecutions ultimately led to his martyrdom in 316 AD, leaving behind a significant spiritual legacy. Although he studied medicine, he chose to offer his services without any financial expectations.
The breadth of his charity was remarkable; he provided free medications and covered hospitalization costs for those in need. His actions were fueled by love for God and continuous study of the Holy Scriptures.
due to his spiritual integrity, the Church included him in the clergy and appointed him Bishop of Sebastea.
during Licinius’ reign, Governor Agricola ordered his arrest. Saint Blasius endured severe torture at the hands of soldiers who mercilessly whipped him with rods before hanging him from a tree and imprisoning him bound.
Their attempts to drown him in a lake failed due to divine intervention that saved him miraculously. This angered those opposed to Christianity leading them to behead him; thus receiving the crown of martyrdom.
