  The Saint Ariadne hailed from the city of Promisianes in Phrygia salutaria. According to various accounts, she was a servant of the powerful lord Tertyllus in that region. Despite her circumstances as a servant, Ariadne had already embraced Christianity.

  This devotion led to conflict when her master discovered her faith and pressured her to revert to paganism. Nevertheless, Ariadne stood firm in her beliefs and refused to offer sacrifices to idols even during Tertyllus’s son’s birthday celebration.

  This act of defiance infuriated him and resulted in horrific tortures inflicted upon her person; it is said that they flayed her skin yet could not shake her faith.

  Ariadne was temporarily released after enduring these torments but continued to be pursued by Tertyllus relentlessly.

  Daringly seeking refuge from him one day while standing before a rock and praying fervently for divine intervention, tradition holds that God answered her prayers by causing the stone to open up and provide shelter within its embrace.

  The fate of those who persecuted Ariadne was equally grim; fearsome angels appeared on horseback and struck them down with their spears as punishment for their actions against the saint.
