Ποιες είναι οι κατηγορίες κατά των 6 συλληφθέντων;
The investigation was initiated following allegations regarding the manipulation of a total of 50 basketball matches in the top category as well as other divisions and one match that took place abroad. The time frame under examination spans from 2016 to 2026.
The six individuals face charges related to bribery and corruption under sports law. They will be brought before the prosecutor and later before the relevant investigator to receive a deadline for their defense statements. Judicial sources indicated that there are no recorded phone conversations in the case file since no confidentiality was lifted. The prosecutor’s investigation leading to criminal charges relied on sworn testimonies from individuals involved in the case.
A reason for arrests by authorities?
The prosecutor and investigator handling this case deemed Mr. Liolios a flight risk; so an arrest warrant was issued against him. Similar actions were taken against others involved as well. According to information from iEidiseis.gr, Mr. Liolios had been summoned as a suspect by prosecutor Mr. Grammenos within the context of investigations into allegations concerning Greek basketball.
Evidently not appearing despite being summoned as a suspect is reported for him and other defendants too. Following completion of investigations, Prosecutor Mr. Grammenos filed criminal charges against them which were assigned to an investigator who issued arrest warrants with utmost confidentiality based on mutual agreement with the prosecutor.
