Γιορτή 3/5 – Κυριακή του Παραλύτου

Η Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία εορτάζει την Κυριακή του Παραλύτου,τιμώντας ένα από τα πιο εντυπωσιακά θαύματα που πραγματοποίησε ο Ιησούς Χριστός στα Ιεροσόλυμα. Κατά τη διάρκεια της Θείας Λειτουργίας αναγιγνώσκεται μια ευαγγελική περικοπή από το κατά Ιωάννην Ευαγγέλιο, η οποία περιγράφει με σαφήνεια την ίαση ενός ανθρώπου που υπέφερε από παράλυση για τριάντα οκτώ χρόνια.

This event took place at the Pool of Bethesda, where the Lord intervened with His powerful Word to restore the health of the paralytic out of immense compassion for his suffering. This miracle highlights His divine nature as master over life and death.

The location of this miracle was significant; it was a gathering place for many sick individuals—blind, lame, and paralyzed—who awaited the stirring of the waters. According to tradition cited by saint.gr,an angel would occasionally descend into the pool and stir up its waters; whoever entered first after this disturbance would be healed from any ailment they had. The paralytic in our story had been unable to enter for nearly four decades due to a lack of assistance from others.

When Christ approached him and asked if he wished to be healed, he expressed his despair with the words “Κύριε, άνθρωπον ουκ έχω,” highlighting his profound loneliness and abandonment. The SaviorS response did not rely on any natural process or on entering the water but rather came through a commanding and life-giving directive: “Έγειρε, άρον τον κράββατόν σου και περιπάτει.” His healing was instantaneous—a testament that God’s Word transcends natural laws and human limitations.
